SPACESHIPS CAMPERS LAUNCHED IN UK!
17th October 2009
Hi all,
Well it's been a busy few months since we launched back in July. Launching in the middle of peak season meant that we started with a hiss and a roar and needed to work hard just to keep up with demand. Now winter's on its way we've finally got the chance to stand back and take a few breaths! We'll also be getting out and about more to hostels and travel agencies spreading the Space word!
Thanks to everyone who has taken a Spaceship away - we've been getting amazing feedback with the most popular comment being that Spaceships have everything you need but comes with great extras like the DVD player and ipod connector that definitely enhance your trip!
One interesting trend we've noticed which is different here than for Spaceships in NZ and Australia is that many more locals are hiring Spaceships. We've found that British customers also mostly say they're interested in coming back and hiring Spaceships year after year for their holiday, which is awesome!
Craig, Spaceships Oz's General Manager recently took a Spaceship away in the UK and Europe for a wee jaunt. He came back saying that he was amazed how well both the UK and Europe were set up for camping, especially in France where there are 1000's of great campgrounds in amazing locations (including next to beaches and vineyards conveniently!)
Thanks to all those ex-Spaceship customers who have been getting in touch saying how excited they are that Spaceships are finally here and that they've seen ones whizzing down the M5 and so on! We just received an email from a German ex-Stray customer (Stray is an hop-on hop-off adventure bus in New Zealand and Spaceships' sister company) who had seen a Spaceship in Berlin recently!
Watch out for a Spaceship coming your way soon or hire your own to explore the UK and Europe's outer space!
Live long and prosper,
The Space Cadets!
SPACESHIPS TO TOUCH DOWN IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Is it a car? Is it a campervan? No! It’s a Spaceship!
This new adventure superhero has touched down from another world, coming to the aid of travellers who want freedom to explore the wilds of this great continent without having to handle a clunky, chunky campervan.
For too long independent travellers have had to choose between the flexibility of a car – with the added expense of accommodation, and the facilities of a campervan, with its driving, handling and accessibility challenges.
On the 1st of July, bright orange Spaceships will be landing in the United Kingdom.
The award-winning Toyota people movers are custom fitted with everything an intrepid explorer could need or want, but can also drive anywhere a car can go. Features include comfortable sleeping for two people on a large double bed, portable cookers, fridge/freezer, a four-speaker entertainment system including a DVD and MP3 player with iPod cord, water supply, seat-belted seating for four and lots of storage spcae.
Spaceships are a New Zealand concept which launched in 2004 and have since won the New Zealand Tourism Award for Innovation. In 2008 they launched into Australia where they have been a huge success with both adventurous residents and tourists.
Spaceships founder, Neil Geddes, has been blown away by the support and interest they have received since announcing their arrival in the UK.
“The response from the UK has been phenomenal. We are already taking bookings from past customers who have experienced a Spaceships adventure in New Zealand or Australia and now want to have the same great encounter in their own backyard. Our expectations of demand for the vehicles have been far surpassed already,” Geddes said.
“Most travellers want a rental vehicle that’s easy to drive and there are very few options in the market for this,” says Neil. “We’ve identified a gap in the market and there is plenty of support for the growth of Spaceships in the UK.”
The Spaceships UK head office is in Kent, only one hour from central London. In addition to this, a number of ‘Space Stations’ are also being established around Great Britain, which will provide travellers with advice from local tour operators and activities in the area to swapping DVD’s.
Spaceships encourages trailblazing crews to go boldly where they have never gone before, with their unique support and guidance package. This includes itinerary planning, Space Stations (local points of contacts), guidebooks and great deals on adventure activities.
