Where to stay and ski
Because of the distances involved, France tends to be the place that most skiers take a motorhome to on a trip from the UK. France’s laws allow for overnight parking in most locations and there are also purpose-built “Ski Aires” at most ski fields – how convenient is that!
Many places (Like Morzine) have car parks just meters away from the lifts that you can stay in, but in other areas, the Ski Aires are on site. These cost around £10 a night and normally come complete with a water supply, wastewater and toilet emptying facilities and some even have electric hookups (not to worry if they don’t as our motorhomes have leisure batteries and a large LPG tank to keep you going).
Some of the best Ski Areas around include those at Les Gets, La Rosière, Super Dévoluy, Valloire and Les Menuires, but as they say, these are just the tip of the iceberg as far as where your next adventure could take you.
Wanting a Campsite with a little more luxury?
There are some lovely alpine campsites that offer a prime location to ski fields and have all the facilities on site like bars and restaurants and more expansive bathroom facilities – some even have Jacuzzis!
Great options include;
- Huttopia Bourg-St-Maurice (M15), set in the heart of Les Arcs and on the doorstep of La Plagne
- Le Champ du Moulin (M03), a peaceful site set in the alpine heaven of Vénosc with over 200km of ski slopes nearby
- L'Escale (M07), Tucked away in picturesque snow-capped mountains, this site is conveniently located to Annecy, Geneva and Chamonix
These campsites have great facilities and even have saunas for you to relax and unwind in after a day on the slopes. Most also have a great range of winter sports on-site like ice skating and tobogganing.
Super Budget Conscious? Why not take a Campervan
Our range of campervans provides an even cheaper option for your next ski adventure with the DELTA and VOYAGER being best suited for the winter conditions. These have a mains power hook up and normal house plugs meaning you can plug into the power at the campsites and run a heater inside the vans.
They have 2 gas cookers that work just like gas hobs as well as a fridge/freezer and side awning. Campsites with facilities and a mains power hook up means that the voyager would be a comfy place to call home on a ski trip.
